Sleep is important for singers
Many singers, especially those who are more involved with their careers and spend a lot of time on stage, often neglect sleep as an important factor when it comes to keeping restful for the next day.
A good night's sleep is necessary not only for our physical health but also emotional well-being so that we can feel refreshed in order to perform at peak efficiency during rehearsals or performances. However this is something many performers avoid due to pressure from work schedules outside of singing--such as schoolwork--and personal commitments such as family life which may make them fear getting behind even if they do take some downtime every other week.
It's a well-known fact that not getting enough sleep can lead to moodiness and decreased cognitive function. What you may not know is how it impacts your singing voice!
Sleep helps the vocal cords recover from all of their hard work during practice, performance or just everyday life by repairing them so they are ready for more on the next day.
Not only does lack of sleep affect singers' voices but also those who have chronic medical problems such as asthma should take heed because this can be exacerbated when coughing causes muscles in your chest wall to tighten up (which happens at night while asleep).
So what do we need?
More restful nights with plenty of hours spent snoozing -
yep, I'm talking about sweet dreams!
